Cuban Missile Crisis
Yesterday’s extraordinary dialogue of legislators organized by the Schiller Institute (linked below) offers a glimpse into how real adults respond to crisis, not with macho bravado but with genuine concern for the interests of others — the Westphalian Principle, rejected by Tony Blair and today’s War Hawks. Sixty years ago today, Soviet leader Krushchev began the dismantling of nuclear missiles in Cuba, not because President Kennedy threatened to go to war, but demonstrated that he understood that the Soviets and the U.S. each had security interests that were legitimate. That is the lesson for today!
